raya cookies
Written by Hanisah Mashkuri

“Mmm… sedapnye…” said the children when they saw various kueh raya all-stacked up on the table that happened last Friday of 2nd October 2009.  The children and the teachers also dressed up in their beautiful raya clothes.  Some of the female students even take extra time to dress up at home because they looked like pretty dolls with blushing cheeks compared to the usual school uniforms.

The raya party celebration started off with practical solat eidul-fitri after all the children have gathered.  It was then followed by the usual doa before eating recital and everybody gets to enjoy the glorious food.  And all the children get to play all day and had longer play-time as well, playing and singing raya songs together with the teachers too.

Majlis Khatam Quran at GAKD

Posted by: ashieniesha on: September 15, 2009

majlis khatam quran at GAKD

Written by Hanisah Mashkuri

It was a cloudy day at Genius Aulad Kota Damansara last Saturday of 22 Ramadhan or 12 September.  But that did not stop all the teachers from all five centres (Kelana Jaya, Bandar Puteri, USJ, Bandar Sri Damansara and Kota Kemuning) to come to Genius Aulad’s Majlis Khatam Quran 1430.  It is because amazingly, pretty much everyone turned up at 12.45pm-ish.

Upon arrival, everybody get inside Genius Aulad Kota Damansara greeted by Teacher Su of Kota Damansara just in time for the rain to start pouring down.  So nobody got wet from the rain, alhamdulillah…

As soon as everybody settled in, the drivers of Genius Aulad brought in the rekhal (the special small table use to recite the Quran) from Kota Kemuning.  And then the teachers take over arranging all the rekhal for the Khatam Quran event.  After that, the emcee, Teacher Su of Kota Damansara tell everyone to take wudhu’ to prepare for Zuhur prayer and all the teachers lined up at the washroom for it.  The teachers performed Zuhur prayer together in jemaah after everyone has assembled together.

After Zuhur prayer, everybody gathers together where all the rekhal were nicely arranged and got into their rekhal positions.  Teacher Su, as the emcee welcomes everyone to Genius Aulad Kota Damansara again and invited our Executive Director, Puan Zaliza for her welcoming speech and for the opening ceremony of Majlis Khatam Quran 1430.

Later, all teachers recite the opening doa of Al-Quran (‘doa pembukaan Al-Quran’) altogether.  After that, all teachers start reciting the surah individually.

It was then followed by tahlil leaded by Puan Iman of Kelana Jaya’s Principal and tahtim leaded by Teacher Ju of USJ.  When it is all finished, Puan Zaliza recite doa khatam Al-Quran and everybody do selawat to mark the end of khatam Quran.

The event was later continued with marhaban performances from respective centres starting from Kota Damansara and Bandar Sri Damansara, Bandar Puteri and Kelana Jaya, Kota Kemuning and last but not least, USJ.

When Teacher Su the emcee asked Puan Zaliza to give comments about the marhaban performances, she said, “All performances were great and creative, showing some of the teachers’ hidden talent in performing arts…” and everybody laughed.

After that, Teacher Su asked Puan Zaliza to come forward for the souvenir-giving ceremony for all teachers before everyone is dismissed.  Even the drivers were presented with souvenirs too, handed by our Managing Director, Mr Hafiez.  Upon leaving the Kota Damansara centre, all teachers were given some special ‘door-giftcourtesy of Genius Aulad Kota Damansara, consisting of some little goodies for tonight’s iftar at home.

Later, the teachers wrapped up the event by folding up and bringing down all the rekhal to put into the van in returning it all back to Genius Aulad Kota Kemuning.   And then everybody gather together outside, at the front door of Genius Aulad Kota Damansara for a group photo session with big smiles.

Let’s Balik Kampong!!

Posted by: ashieniesha on: September 1, 2009

Written by Hanisah Mashkuri

Genius Aulad received a great and positive response from its Family Day ‘Balik Kampung’ event last Sunday, 2nd of August 2009 at Perkampungan Budaya, Bukit Cherakah , Shah Alam. The event was a blast thanks to the participation from not just parents and students but also from the students’ siblings.  Genius Aulad was even told that nearly over 3,000 parents, students and their families turned up!!

The earliest student and their families turned up as early as 8.00 a.m. after getting off from the bus, which they had gotten on, down at the parking lot before reaching Perkampungan Budaya.  One parent, Norliza Omar mentioned that her children were excited enough to start enjoying the Family Day when they saw Genius Aulad’s hanging green-coloured banner with the bus picture that says ‘My child is My Friend too…’.

Upon arriving, they could hear the sound of the witty MCs of Al-Farabi, a Malaysian Islamic Nasheed band entertaining us all with a welcome greeting to all teachers and the students and their families.  They walked all around the kampong, alternating their witty chats with their music.  They even described the teachers as ‘dayang-dayang’ or court damsels in orange tops and ‘batik’ or ‘pelikat’ cloth wrapped on them and the parents and students as the villagers or ‘orang-orang kampung’ or ‘rakyat jelata’.

The students and their families were also reminded to submit their coupon or ticket upon arrival at the reception in order to get ONE goodie bag for each family, or as the MCs called it, the ‘golden pouch‘ or ‘uncang emas’.   Inside the ‘golden pouch’ or goodie bag contains a few traditional games like batu seremban, bottle caps, the traditional spinning-top or ‘gasing’ and aji draught or dam aji as well as as a big fan.

The MCs had also encouraged the so-called ‘villagers’ to wander around the kampong (checking out all 15 fun stations) while waiting for the officiate welcoming to begin or get some refreshments from the hawkers stalls selling various traditional savouries like kuih Sarawak or curry puffs, porridge etc. as well as selling drinks like cendol and others.

By nearly 9.00-ish a.m. in the morning, the MCs made an announcement telling all the ‘villagers’ to hurriedly walk to the quadrangle of the kampong for a gathering in order to officiate the event formally.  So the ‘court damsels’ of teachers in orange tops and ‘batik’ and ‘pelikat’ cloth helped to ushered the parents and students to move forward to the front of the quadrangle facing the MCs.  The MCs continue saying that azan is going to echo soon and they started to beat the drums to mark the approaching of azan.  One of the Al-Farabi band member echo the azan after the drums finished beating.

Saiful Azni, another parent commented that he was not expecting to see the drums beating to signify the approaching of azan, but it was great that it happened.  This is because, he also mentioned from there, the kampong-ness atmosphere and culture can be felt which seems to be lacking in the city life nowadays.

After the azan, the MCs welcome the traditional Malay martial arts or ‘silat’ participants to come forward into the quadrangle.  They were described as the village warriors or ‘pahlawan’ as the villagers give way for them and got into their positions and started to perform their particular ‘silat gayong makrifat’.  Within fifteen to twenty minutes, the silat was over and the villagers were told that they would be performing silat all over the place, as in all around the kampong and the villagers can all start playing the games such as Boling Kelapa, Main Kawen-kawen, Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak, Hero Kampung Dusun, Sumpitan Si Rentap, Gasing Bawang Rumah, Sepak Raga, Lompat Getah, Batu Seremban Batu Bertangkup, Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah, Dapur Si Labu-Labi, Nujum Pak Belalang, and Anyam Ketupat.

By mid-day, all the villagers seem to be getting into the fun of playing the games as tiny raindrops start falling from the sky slowly.  Later on the tiny raindrops turned into pouring rain and all the villagers who were playing the outdoor games like Sepak Raga and Lompat Getah quickly run into the indoor games like Main Kawen-kawen and Anyam Ketupat as they are still having the games spirit to keep on playing.

The lucky-draw prize giving ceremony soon started after for the students from any of Genius Aulad centres.  But because the villagers are scattered everywhere so the teachers had to represent them on their behalf.

As the rain keep on pouring, most of the villagers decided to leave by 11.30 a.m..  However, there were still some enthusiastic villagers or parents who kept on playing even when it is already noon, especially the famous Main Kawen-kawen, Sumpitan Si Rentap, Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak, Tarik Upih and Gasing Bawah Rumah.

“It was a great family day, better than before,” said Mazatulshazila, one of the parents of Genius Aulad student.

Genius Aulad’s aim for making this event was to bond with the parents and students better and to strengthen the ukhuwwah and our relationship in a fun and pleasure way possible, Insya-Allah.  Alhamdulillah that all the teachers or the court damsels in orange make it all a success in handling over 3,000 people that came that day!!

As a bonus, Genius Aulad was closed on Monday, 3rd of August in celebration of the Family Day Balik Kampong event so that everybody can have a rest from the Sunday event.  Hoo-ray!!

Children of GAZA!

Posted by: ashieniesha on: July 14, 2009

Your cards bloom us with happiness. Thanks a million!

Thank you so much for your nice postcards, wrote Sammar Abu Waked

Children of Gaza and I would like to extend our gratefulness to you for these nice cards you sent….They are really beautiful, wrote Ahmed Abu Waked

Those are just some of the words of appreciation we received from the children of Gaza after receiving our postcards. Our thanks go to Islamic Relief Malaysia for delivering our simple postcards to the unfortunate children there. SKMBT_C20309070810080We embarked on the project of getting our own children at GENIUS AULAD to colour some pre- printed postcards and then write a few words in their own handwriting on the colourful cards. We then gathered all the cards specially prepared by our children and sent them to Gaza with the hope of bringing a little joy to the children there. Indeed our postcards brought a lot of joy to these children!

We received pictures of some of the children with the postcards they got from us…… and it’s such a bliss to see how appreciative they are of our small effort. Most times, it’s the small efforts that reap big pleasure and satisfaction….. and our experience with the children of Gaza really proves that point! Just look at the pictures and see how our postcards brought smiles to the children’s faces…

Dentist Visit GA KJ!!

Posted by: ashieniesha on: July 10, 2009

Written by Hanisah Mashkuri

Genius Aulad Kelana Jaya had a Dentist visit from HUKM for a short-time at 10.00 am for morning session and at 3.00 pm for the afternoon on Wednesday July the 2nd.

All the children were told to go to the hall to see the *wonderful* dentist that came in earlier before the children were assembled together at the hall.   After all the children are seated nicely in order and quiet, our Principal Puan Iman, introduced Dr Nurul to the children and Dr Nurul said salaam to them.  The children answered the salaam, and then Dr Nurul introduced herself as the dentist for the dentist-visit-program today, and all the children were so excited to tell the stories of their teeth ie. about my sister and brother’s gap between the teeth (gigi rongak), the ‘I have a pink tootbrush‘, or ‘My mother got me a strawberry toothpaste’ etc., so it took quite a while to tone down their volumes and tell them to listen to what Dr Nurul has to say about children’s teeth and the importance of brushing their teeth.

When Dr Nurul asked the children who has a toothbrush, they all raised up their hands and shouted excitedly, “ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.

She first showed the big ‘teeth replica‘ that she have with her, and teach them that children have 20 sets of milk teeth (‘gigi susu‘), 10 at the top, 10 at the bottom. And then she opened the mouth of the ‘teeth replica’, and ask the children to count the total number of teeth together with her…. 1, 2, 3….  up to 18, 19, 20…

20? Wow!! 20 teeth!! That’s pretty amazing isn’t it??

And then she showed the children how to brush the teeth, brush at the front, and then at the side-right-top/bottom, and side-left-top/bottom.  And then inside, front-top, side-right-top, side-left-top…  and so on for the bottom teeth.  And the children said, “Oooh…”, as if saying, ‘Ok, now I know the right way to brush my teeth!!’.

And then she showed the pictures of how bad lollies and ice-cream for your teeth and how much more better it is to consume more of fruits and veggies, especially to a growing children in Genius Aulad. And one of the students says, “If you eat too much lollies, you’ll get gigi rongak!! (gaps between the teeth)“, and laughs. Dr Nurul also agrees with that student and say having gaps between the teeth would not make you pretty as well and she smiles, saying that it is now the time to brush your teeth!! And the children got so excited again because they get to do something and not just listen to Dr Nurul talk…

After that, the children were given a toothbrush with two cups each.  Why two cups? One cup for the water, one empty cup to throw the gargled water.  All the teachers helped putting on the paste from the toothpaste to each of the children toothbrush.

They were lined up into 6, 5 and 4 year olds or classes to take turns brushing their teeth according to Dr Nurul’s instructions.  Dr Nurul teach them class-by-class after they have put their water in one of the two cups. So she said, and pointing the toothbrush with her, “Brush at the front, top and bottom, now to the side right, top…  side right bottom, side left top, side left bottom…  Open your mouth, brush the inside of your teeth….” And the children do nothing but brush, brush, brush.

Within minutes, she later tell them to spit out the brushed toothpaste into the empty cup and so the children did.  And then she told them to continue brushing until they all feel it all cleaned.  After that she told them to gargle from  one of the cups which has water in it and spit it into the other cup.

And then Dr Nurul asked the children to look at their friend’s teeth to see if it’s clean.  And the children show their teeth to each other…  Some of them say, “Mmmm… I feel my teeth is so clean now...” and some says, “Look at my beautiful teeth,” with a big grin.

The children then washed the toothbrush and throw away the gargled water into the sink, and as a bonus they get to keep the *new* toothbrush from Dr Nurul!! How awesomeness!!

They all get back to their respective classes once they are done, as the next class folow-up.  Once they are back in the class, they are all still excited because of the new toothbrush, the feeling of clean teeth and telling each other about cannot wait to see the dentist for real with mum and dad.

  • waiting for children to come to school

9.05 a.m.

  • start moving, leaving the school, the children recite doa riding on vehicle

9.26 a.m

  • arrive at Silver Bird Sdn. Bhd.

9.30 a.m

  • get off van, children lined up in two lines, according to boys and girls
  • children and teacher go inside, can already smell bread… yumm..
  • figured out the bread smell was from the Bread Town Café, just passed the café to go to the auditorium
  • in the auditorium, watch 5 minutes video explanation about bread comes from the wheat plant
  • after that, the children get off from their seats in the auditorium and lined up again to go to the next theatre room to watch the second 5 minutes video cartoon/animation, which was presented by an animated bread
  • video explains about the history of bread-making:
  • bread-making first started in 3000 B.C. by the Egyptians
  • improve in bread-making (in dough wheat) later in the Iron Age because use conducted heat
  • after that the Romans grew better grain
  • after the Romans is the Vikings, they made a hole in the center of the bread to make it easier to put on tent poles
  • Middle Ages was after that, developed large ovens which is more organized because bread can be made for the whole community, and increase the sales of bread from the milling machine
  • In the Georgian era, the sandwich was introduced and taken from the name Earl of Sandwich.  This era started better farming and better grain and also started the slices bread (making the bread to have straighter sides) which is the sandwiches that we eat now.
  • After that is the Industrial Revolution where people migrate from country to town, using steam-powered mills and stream-roller mill to make the bread to be lighter and tastier
  • The video wraps up saying that the legacy of bread happened after more than 5000 years, saying that was how Hi-5 started.  Starts the museum tour.
  • Children get off their seats, lined up again to prepare to enter the museum/gallery
  • Was told when inside the museum, no touching, no flash photography or food is allowed
  • We needed to say the password to make the door open to get in and the children was told to say ‘Hi-5’ after the Customer Relations Officer, Sister Murni leaded the tour said ‘1, 2, 3’.
  • The ‘magic’ door slides open to the right and the children said, “Wowwwww….”, feeling so full with amazement
  • The ‘magic’ door close as soon as everybody got in
  • Sister Murni explained about the first part of the museum showcased  the Egyptian era, with hieroglyphs images on the wall, and replicas of wheat to make bread
  • The children move forward to see a man crushing the wheat into flour and the primitive grinding stone to make dough
  • As we keep on moving, we go through the Egyptian era-show oven to bake bread and the twirl machine to grind fine grain
  • Enter Romans era, were shown the large oven and real bread (display only) but cannot touch because we are in a museum and also because they already put chemicals in the bread to preserve the displayed bread
  • Go straight to Vikings era, where the doughnuts were first made and doughnuts were also displayed but not allowed to touch as well
  • Go to the left to the Middle Ages era, saw a big wind-mill where it first began to make wind energy and was developed to make more bread sales
  • Move forward and were shown the three examples of wheat chart in Hi-5:
  • High-protein wheat –  the bread loaf
  • Medium and low protein wheat is to make cake, muffins and savouries
  • Moving ahead to see the sandwich during King George, saw the tin baker where bread were cut into slices with cutter
  • Moving along, were shown to a glass display of moving horizontal dough mixture.  Used to make dough which has water, yeast, flour.
  • Move to the left to see rack oven, stainless steel baking chamber to bake bread in medium quantity
  • Get back into the path and was shown the Big Toaster, with a Big Slice of Bread founded in 1893 in Great Britain
  • Was shown the bicycle started to sell bread, known as the ‘roti bike
  • Passed through display of Olden Day Bread Shop, variety of bread and bread savouries food
  • After that we had to say the ‘Hi-5’ password again because there is another new ‘magic’ door that slides open, it’s a tunnel!!
  • The children was amazed with ‘wowness’ again when entered
  • Also known as an ‘adventure tunnel’ – show bread/savoury food for astronauts such as: Space age croissant, Magic pizza, Dough ball roti canai, High energy baguette, Packet sandwich bread and Multi-grain bread.
  • Got off the ‘tunnel’ and went out into a hallway of framed samples of packaging wheat flour (guni tepung gandum ) from all over the world (i.e. China, Indonesia, Singapore, America, Canada, France, etc.)
  • From the hallway, enter a new hallway of sky walk with glass windows on the wall, where we can see the inside of the factory with the bread-making machines
  • Was told to hold the glass windows, felt hot because the bread is baking in the oven
  • From the glass windows we can see how the factory is divided into two productions: Cream Roll Bread and Slices Bread Loaf
  • Cream Roll Bread
    • Flavours: Chocolate, Vanilla, Double Espresso, Corn
    • From tray to oven, made 13, 000 units bake for 20 minutes
    • Finished baked cream roll (don’t have cream yet), go to cooling towel first to cool down (for 1 hr),  insert cream after cooled
    • Packaging rolls were divided into colours for flavours:
      • Yellow – Corn
      • Blue – Double Cream Blueberry
      • Green – apple (new!!)
  • Slices Bread Loaf

    • Bread goes into mixer (dough mixed of water/yeast/flour>>> divide machine >> winder machine >>> bake bread in tin baker  >>> baked >>> sliced in slices machine (appear as sandwich loaf)
    • 1 hr fermentation because of the yeast in the bread needs to blow up, made 80, 000 unit
    • End of sky walk tour, looking through the glass windows, and was told that bread life is only for ONE week and not more than that because it will expire within one week
  • Get down the stairs, go into the machinery museum, see bigger display of bread-making machines, looked like our mother’s cake mixer at home, but bigger such as bread machine slicer, cookie cutter, founder machine, dough mixer etc.
  • After that, got into the Art & Science corner, to see the moving bread-making machine, where bread loaves were supposed to be moving up to a towel machine (but there was no bread) and had opportunity to touch the soft dough mixture of flour, yeast and water.
  • Everybody commented that the dough is really soft, try touching it.
  • Was told that the tour is finished, so the children lined up again, two by two boys and girls to get the complimentary gifts from Hi-5,
  • Gifts consisting of Hi-5 loaf bread, cream roll, fruit cake, muffin and other savoury bread.
  • Take photograph with the giant Hi-5 bread loaf replica posing with Hi-5 hands up saying “Hi-5!!”.
  • Everybody line up to go back to the van.

11.15 a.m

  • We all got on the van to go back to school.  Everybody feels tired but had fun from the trip. The children recite the doa on vehicle, and some students who choose to eat the cream rolls recite the doa before eating….  Yum-my!!

11.30 a.m.

  • Arrive at school, most of us feeling thirsty and still tired.  Some of us have a drink at school while waiting for parents or other van to pick us up to go back home. Can’t wait for more future trips!! Yaay!!

Muslimpreneur: From Boycotting to Branding

Posted by: ashieniesha on: April 23, 2009

img_5108

Forum ini dihadiri oleh jemputan kehormat seperti Tuan Haji Burhanuddin (Pengarah Urusan Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd.), Encik Ishak bin Husin (Pengarah Biotral Sdn. Bhd.), Encik Muneer A.Rasheed (Perunding Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia) dan Puan Mona Din (Wanita IKON 2008, Anugerah Wanita Waja) sebagai ahli-ahli panelnya.

“MUSLIMPRENEUR: FROM BOYCOTTING TO BRANDING”  yang dianjurkan oleh GENIUS AULAD turut menampilkan Puan Zaliza Alias, pengarah kreatif  GENIUS AULAD selaku moderator dan forum ini telah mendapat sambutan yang di luar jangkaan. Seawal jam 8.00 pagi, pintu masuk Auditorium Muzium Kesenian Islam sudah menjadi tumpuan ramai.

img_51182

23rd July 2008 – It’s our trip to  Astronautic Technology Sdn Bhd (ATSB). The kids’ arrival was welcomed by ‘an astronaut’. Not only they  had the chance to see an actual suit used by astronauts but also a chance to learn what the astronauts experience through the images and replicas of the space capsule Soyuz, the International Space Station (ISS), and the Star City in Russia as well as some science projects and experiments done by the children. But our children did not look deterred at all. They were enthusiastic and eager to ask more questions. Can you already imagine them making a space trip to Mars one day?

The nature is one of Allah’s most amazing creations. From the wide blue sky, to the tall green trees. So what better way to appreciate Allah’s creations than to spend a whole day out on it?

The kids are making their own compass!

The teacher’s at Genius Aulad wanted to plan a very special day out, not only for the students, but also for their entire family. A chance to tear the children and their family away from the business of the city, into the calmness of the wetland.

So kids, did u get to catch the fish?

So, on the 9th August 2008 ,the Putrajaya Wetland provided the perfect venue for our Genius Aulad Scholar’s Camp-out! The venue was beautiful with many parks and gardens, as well as a variety of animals.

Watch out your feet! They might get wet in those tires!

Of course, the day was never short of many fun-filled activities. The children had their hands in full with activities such as ‘Swamp In The Jungle’, ‘Cooking in the Jungle’, ‘Night Treasure Hunting’, and ‘Qiblat in the Jungle’. While the children were busy with their activities, many of the parents tried their hands with fishing, or simply just lazing under the sky on a picnic mat.

Sandwich in the making,kids!!

It was a wonderful fun-filled bonding time between the childrens and their parents, as well as the nature around them. As Allah’s caliph on this earth, it is our responsibility to protect all of Allah’s creations. We hope that this will instill among our childrens that no matter how technology has developed, we should always appreciate, love and care for our environment!

Cheng Ho: Bahtera Mimpi

Tirai pementasan teater “Zheng He: Ship of Dreams” dibuka seiring dengan latarbelakang muzik tradisional Cina.
